Tolkien and Staffordshire – A Talk By John Garth
The young J.R.R. Tolkien laid foundations for Middle-earth – with its languages, legends and marvellous inhabitants – as an army officer in First World War Staffordshire.
John Garth, author of The Worlds of J.R.R. Tolkien and the award-winning Tolkien and the Great War, traces the vital connections with Lichfield and Cannock Chase that helped to shape the mythology behind The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
