The History of Lichfield’s Sheriff’s Ride

Join Jono Oates, manager of the St Mary’s Photographic Collection, as he presents a one hour talk on the history of the Sheriff’s Ride using vintage projected photographs from the collection’s archives.

From the early 1900s through to the 2000s Jono will tell the story of this ancient Lichfield custom through the characters and locations held within each photograph. This is a rare opportunity to see photographs from the St Mary’s photographic archives and to discover the 500 hundred years history of one of Lichfield’s most traditional events required by the Charter of 1553.

Part of fundraising is to enable reopening of the Spire tours and interpretation at St Mary’s.
