The Alter Comedy Club

The sell-out Alter Comedy Club returns to The Hub for another season.

Lichfield’s finest establishment for Stand-Up Comedy, priding itself on relaxed vibes, reserved seats and bringing you some of the UK’s best award-winning acts.

Headlining Alter’s September gig is Mancunian ray of sunshine, Josh Jones – the most original voice to emerge from the North-West in recent years. Following his hilarious TV appearances on E4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats and ITV’s Jonathan Ross’ Comedy Club, Josh has gone on to host BBC Three’s Fast Food Face-Off and make guest appearances on Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, ITV2’s Iain Stirling’s CelebAbility, E4’s Reality News, Sky Max’s Dating No Filter, Dave’s Late Night Mash and also Comedy Central’s Undeniable, Guessable, Rhod Gilbert’s Growing Pains and Comedy Central Live.
Josh co-hosts the Dave original podcast series Hard Sell with Darren Harriott and also hosts his own historical gossip podcast Dead Drama and the Chatting with Cherubs podcast with Morgan Rees.
In 2022 Josh was nominated for Best Newcomer at Dave’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards for his critically acclaimed sell-out show Waste of Space. He was previously a finalist for the prestigious BBC New Comedy Award, which he subsequently went on to judge on BBC Three.

Becky Umbers is a multi-award-winning comedian from New Zealand. A joyful comic, she has a unique take on life and the voice to match. Becky has already made her mark in NZ and is now bringing her quirky storytelling and observations to the UK comedy scene. Don’t miss this up-and-coming star of New Zealand comedy.

Don Biswas is one of the gems of the circuit. A politically charged gag merchant who likes to cover a wide range of subjects including his Asian upbringing, his neurodiversity as someone with dyspraxia, ADHD, and ASD and even the most important of topics… conspiracy theories. Don has gained huge admiration off all corners of the circuit.

Your MC for the evening will be Andy Robinson. Andy has performed over 4000 gigs at places including Glee Clubs, Comedy Stores, Highlights and Jongleurs, and has also worked as a warm-up artist for TV shows such as Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Shooting Stars, Later with Jools Holland and Jonathan Ross – as well as others you may know… and some you definitely won’t! If more trumpets are to be blown, Andy has also supported Sean Lock, Rich Hall and Paddy McGuiness.
He is also known as comedy legend Jo Brand’s regular support act and has
worked with her for the past ten years. Andy has written and performed for Virgin Radio’s breakfast show and various other radio programmes – although he was sacked from some of them…

Andy regularly picks up awards for his weekly comedy night at Birmingham Glee Club Comedy Carousel, winning Best Midlands Club Night at the Chortle Awards in 2015 and has picked up several Midlands Comedy Awards for Best Compère and Act in 2014, most recently Best Club Night in 2018 and 2019.
