Lichfield Festival: LA SOLITUDE – Jessica Walker voice & Joseph Atkins piano
‘I can say things in a song I’d never say in life.’
One of the greatest 20th century singer-songwriters, Barbara expressed the inexpressible through song. Born in 1930, she became known for her interpretations of the songs of Jacques Brel and Georges Brassens, before developing her own intimate style; her sudden death in 1997 prompted a national outpouring of grief.
In this solo show exploring Barbara’s life and music, our Associate Artist, Jessica Walker, interweaves new English and original French versions of iconic songs by Barbara, Brassens and Brel, as part of our French Icons season.
