Lichfield Festival: JIM MORAY

Jim Moray is a defining figure in contemporary British folk, reshaping traditional song through a distinctive, often cinematic approach. For over 20 years, his work has reconfigured the folk landscape, and continues to shape folk’s younger generation, stretching the elastic limits of the tradition.

With 8 albums released since the early 2000s, Moray has toured extensively with artists such as Billy Bragg, Bellowhead and Eliza Carthy, at venues including Glastonbury, the Royal Albert Hall and WOMAD. His arrangements of traditional songs, including Gilderoy, Horkstow Grange, and Fair Margaret and Sweet William, have become reference points for how tradition can be reworked with both imagination and rigour, while his version of the ballad Lord Douglas has established itself as a touchstone for fingerstyle guitarists.
