Lichfield Festival: A NIGHT WITH JOSEPHINE – Counterpoise Ensemble with Cassiopeia Berkeley-Agyepong
Part of our French Icons series, A Night with Josephine tells the story – with music, film and dance – of the American-French singer, dancer and actress Josephine Baker. Notorious for her banana dance, she was also a civil rights activist, champion of women’s rights, intrepid Resistance fighter and ‘the most sensational woman anyone ever saw’ (Ernest Hemingway).
The acclaimed Counterpoise Ensemble is joined by Cassiopeia Berkeley-Agyepong (as Josephine) for an evening that brings to life the spirit of 1920s Paris and evokes the world of an astonishing African-American cabaret artist who captured the hearts of the French.
