Let Me In Presents – ONCE the Musical

A struggling Dublin busker has a chance conversation with a Czech girl with a broken hoover. They play some music together. The rest is history.

Based on the Academy Award Winning 2006 film, and the winner of eight Tony Awards® in 2012, including Best Musical, Once tells the unforgettable story of two disenfranchised artists, drawn together by their shared love of music. Featuring the beautiful music of The Swell Season (Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova), played by an incredible ensemble of actor-musicians, ‎playing their instruments and telling their story live on stage.

Following critically acclaimed, sold out productions of Spring Awakening, Let the Right One In and People, Places & Things, Let Me In are back with a stunning story that steals your heart and stays with you forever.

Let Me In are dedicated to ensuring their productions are accessible to all, and are proud to announce that 50% of the performances for Once will be made available on a ‘Pay What You Can’ basis. We believe that theatre has both the potential and responsibility to support the strengthening of communities and in actively fighting against injustices that provide a select few in society opportunities that should be accessible to everyone. We are constantly pushing ourselves to find new ways to collaborate with individuals and communities across the Midlands in seeing how we can develop projects that aren’t just artistically enjoyable but that enable space for reflection on how to make our communities more open, safe and without prejudice.

We want everyone to feel they have the opportunity to engage with our shows and aim to make all the shows we do affordable for all. If there are events you would like to attend but there are financial barriers then please get in touch and if we can help out we will.

A relaxed performance is a show that’s been adapted to suit people who might require a more relaxed environment when going to the theatre. Usually, these are adults or children with learning difficulties, autism or sensory communication disorders.

People with conditions like these can find standard theatre performances overwhelming or unpleasant. Common triggers are darkness, loud music, sudden noises and a generally unfamiliar environment in which you’re expected to sit still and quiet for a long time.

To make theatre more accessible to people who might struggle with these aspects, we have decided to stage a relaxed performance of Once.

Some technical changes will be made to the performance – this will include quieter music, reducing loud or surprising sound effects and avoiding any intense lighting, including strobe. The performance will also take place in the late afternoon, therefore, you will still see some natural light coming into the space, meaning a less intense lighting state.

The atmosphere is exactly that – relaxed! We will also provide a ‘chill-out’ area for people to visit if the experience becomes overwhelming. Patrons are allowed to enter and leave the auditorium freely, and there is an open attitude towards audience noise and movement at these performances.

Let Me In are dedicated to ensuring their productions are accessible to all, and are proud to announce that these relaxed performances for Once will be made available on a ‘Pay What You Can’ basis. We believe that theatre has both the potential and responsibility to support the strengthening of communities and in actively fighting against injustices that provide a select few in society opportunities that should be accessible to everyone.

As part of the programme for our production of Once – we are delighted to announce a special School’s Performance. For this, we will be offering schools the chance to see our production, as well as partake in a post-show Q&A, and even an opportunity to walk the stage and see the production from the perspective of the actors and musicians.

Education is a huge part of our ethos and we want to ensure we are engaging with the local community in order to bring theatre to all.
