Home: Muntu Valdo

Take a midday escape with Home at the Hub – a free lunchtime concert series that brings world music and vibrant international artists to The Hub’s stage.

Recently, Cameroonian Muntu Valdo has attracted attention with his mesmerising solo sets, mixing African traditions with striking modernity and technical mastery to create sun-kissed groove heavy Sawablues. His last album The One & The Many was released by Warner Jazz and described as “Pure spiritual uplift” and “Music to banish sadness” by Metro and The Times respectively.

He’s travelled all over the world and played with some of the great names of African and international music including Ali Farka Touré, Manu Dibango, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Damon Albarn, Richard Bona and Lucinda Williams just to name a few. His mesmerizing solo set juxtaposes his raw, passionate voice and intensely emotive melodies, intricate African guitar lines with an ingenious use of loops and effects to create sun-kissed groove heavy Sawa Blues.

This summer, Muntu presents a sneak preview of his new project written against the backdrop of humanitarian and refugee crisis all over the world, paying tribute to all the hard working men and women longing for a better life.

Valdo’s new project still takes inspiration from the mighty Atlantic waves, whose mythical influence and legends permeate his Sawa culture.

Good music travels fast.
