Home: Millicent Chapanda

Take a midday escape with Home at the Hub – a free lunchtime concert series that brings world music and vibrant international artists to The Hub’s stage.

Millicent Chapanda is a proud cultural artist with a vibrant mission to bring the lived experience of women in Zimbabwe onto international world music stages.

In performance, although her music goes deep into ancient Shona cultural heritage, it’s clear that Milli is keen to sing out loud on gender issues and the barriers affecting women in the diaspora and back in Zimbabwe, and this gives her fine performances a real cutting edge on stage.

A Milli Chapanda show is above all a celebration Shona-style that calls on those dancing ancestral spirits to rise through the trance of mbira’s cascading sounds to the pull of the voice and the insistent pulse of the deep ngoma drum and hosho shakers.

This is a Free Concert and a ticket is not required. Capacity is limited (first come, first served) and our coffee shop will be open before and after the concert. Seating will be a combination of seated at coffee shop tables and rows of seating. Latecomers will be admitted subject to space. We respectfully request that concert attendees limit noise during the performance.
